Sports only lead to good things

Serenela Zarza is a girl from Cartagena that lives in the Loma Fresca neighborhood; she goes to the school of her sector and she has been connected the Foundation for three years. This young girl lives with her grandfather, who finances her schooling, and with her mother with whom she has had clashes in certain occasions due to Serelena’s difficult personality.

Due to her strong character and rudeness towards teachers, Serenela was suspended for a while from the sports program; this made her reflect on her actions and led her to accept her mistakes. After the disciplinary incidents, the Foundation’s teachers received her and urged her to participate in sports and activities in which respect and good behavior prevailed.

Now, at 15 years of age, Serenela is the captain of the women’s soccer team, she also practices indoor soccer and kickball, a sport that is widely practiced in this part of the country. Due to her personality and her upbringing she has everything in her favor to become a great positive leader; she currently helps organize recreational activities held on her community.

The changes in this little girl have not only been seen by the Foundation’s collaborators but also by her mother, who is happy because she knows that after her child finishes classes, she heads to the field to spend her free time playing soccer, away from the dangers and vices found in the streets.
