For the second year, Formula Smiles receives recognition by Spanish NGO
FORMULA SMILES GOT THIRD PLACE IN SPAIN
The Foundation led by the Colombian pilot Juan Pablo Montoya and his wife Connie Freydell got third place among the ten worldwide nominated non-profit organizations. Formula Smiles was elected for the work it has been developing with its program Education + Sports = The Best Formula in the city of Ibague, through its School of Sports Formation in Soccer, in which 120 children and teenagers play. They are of the most depressed areas of the city and vulnerable to different social problems such as underage working and an environment surrounded by domestic violence, drugs, and vandalism.
The winning organization this year was the Strathmore Education Trust of Kenya, with its “Eastlands Project”. The second place went to the Foundation of the recognized soccer player Samuel Eto´o in Cameroon with the project “With Soccer towards Social Integration”. Another Colombian nominee was the Athletic Corporation Once Caldas with the Project “Soccer for Peace”.
With this prize, the Spanish NGO seeks to recognize annually the work of people and institutions that, through sports, develop in any part of the world tasks with the purpose of relieving suffering. Because of that, and given the extent of the different tasks realized by the winners, it is intended to raise awareness regarding the different social realities with a special emphasis in the infant and youthful populations that are the most vulnerable.
“For the foundation it is already very important having been nominated for the second year to this prize, because it indicates that we have been doing things well and that our job, besides being recognized by international organizations, is acknowledged by the children that are a part of this team and who take advantage of these opportunities to improve their future” said Connie Freydell, president of Formula Smiles.
